Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of worry on physiological and emotional response to negative emotional stimuli in patients with generalized anxiety disorder and normal individuals.
This study was a semi-experimental research with pretest, post-test and control group. The experimental group included 41 participants with generalized anxiety disorder (21 in the group of relaxation induction and 20 in the group of worry induction) and 39 normal participants (19 in the group of relaxation induction and 20 in the group of worry induction). In this study, the participants were exposed to scary and sad movies films after induction of worry or relaxation and their reaction were assessed by positive and negetive affect questionnaire and the pulse oximetery equipment.
The results showed that worry induction leads to decrease in heart rate and negative affect when faceing scary films. However relaxation induction leads to increase in negative affect in response to watching sad and scary clips (negative contrast avoidance). Aditionally worry led to more decrease in heart rate in response to scary films in GAD group (vs. normal group). It may concluded that worry facilitates avoidance of negative emotions processing by theway of preventing a negative emotional contrast.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the psychological hardiness as the role of mediator in the relationship between spiritual well-being and marital satisfaction. This study considers spiritual well-being as an exogenous variable, and dimensions of psychological hardiness as mediator variables, and marital satisfaction as an endogenous variable. Participants in this study were 300 marital students of Shiraz University and Shiraz medical sciences dormitories selected by cluster sampling method. Also participants responded spiritual well-being scale Paloutzian & Ellison (1982), Hudson Index of Martial Satisfaction (IMS) (1992) and Ahvaz Hardiness Scale (1999).The method of research was correlation and path analysis was used to analyze the data. The results showed that the Spiritual well-being has positive effect on the psychological hardiness (β=0.68, p=0.004) and the psychological hardiness has a positive effect on the martial satisfaction (β=0.22, p=0.02). Also, it was found that the psychological hardiness played significant mediator role between spiritual well-being and the martial satisfaction (β=0.82, p= 0.03). According to these findings, it can be concluded that if persons increase and enhance the spiritual well-being, it will reinforce principles and strategies of marital satisfaction and enhance satisfaction of their life.
