Abstract

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of group administered form of mindfulness-based stress reduction program for fibromyalgia severity. In a quasi-experimental design, a randomized controlled trial with baseline, post treatment, and follow-up assessments along with control group was conducted. Twenty-five patients with fibromyalgia by convenience sampling selected from patients attending Parsian Hospital in Tehran. Participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n = 13 under administration of mindfulness-based stress reduction program in 8 group sessions once a week) or control group (n = 12). All participants completed a questionnaire requesting demographic information and the Combined Index of Severity of Fibromyalgia (ICAF) in three phases of baseline, post treatment and follow-up. Results of analysis of variance with repeated measures indicated that the patients receiving the mindfulness-based stress reduction program reported less severity of fibromyalgia and overall better functioning than control group patients in post treatment (3 months after the baseline assessment) and follow-up (9 months after the baseline assessment) periods. According to the results, group mindfulness-based stress reduction program is an effective method in decreasing the severity of fibromyalgia. Implications for further research and possible clinical applications are discussed.

Abstract

Health is a dynamic state in which individuals consistently adapt themselves to the internal and external changes. Different sciences and disciplines have addressed health issues, which among them, the community health disciplines have a special look at the subject. The purpose of this study was to investigate and develop a structural model for prediction of subjective well-being based on philosophical and perfectionism mentality through mediation of mindfulness in Tehran male employees. The present research was a correlation research and the target population of this study included all male employees of four state departments of Tehran in 2018. In this study, multi-stage cluster random sampling method was used. The sample size was 300 people according to the number of variables in the research. In this research the philosophical mentality, perfectionism, mindfulness, and subjective well-being questionnaires were used. Analyzing of data was performed using path analysis and structural modeling. The structural model of prediction of subjective well-being prediction based on philosophical mentality and perfectionism with the mediation of mindfulness in male employees was satisfactorily matched with research data (p<0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the subjective well-being in the men employees of Tehran state departments is explained by the philosophical mindedness and perfectionism through mediation of mindfulness .

Abstract

Anger issues seem to be a central problem in individuals who show impulsive tendencies (reference???). Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of parenting education based on compassion-based mindfulness in controlling the anger of mothers. The research method was quasi-experimental with a pre-test post-test design with a control group and the statistical population included all mothers referred to the Iranian Welfare Organization in 2019. The sample size consisted of 30 impulsive mothers who were selected by available methods and were randomly divided into experimental (n = 15) and control (n = 15) groups. The research tool for data collection was the Anger Control Questionnaire and to provide parenting training based on compassion-based on mindfulness, a workshop designed by the researcher was conducted in 14 sessions of 60 minutes for the experimental group. The results showed that the level of covariance analysis test showed that parenting education based on mindfulness-based on compassion was effective in controlling mothers' anger and 52% of the post-test scores were explained by parenting education. According to the results of this study, the skills used in parenting education and mindfulness can help impulsive mothers to have more control over their anger. Therefore, by including parenting education in the programs of related organizations such as education, families can be helped effectively.

Abstract

Job stress develops from interactions, job tasks, and heightened stressors and lead to burnout, increasing absenteeism, health problems, and turnover. Individuals who are high in trait mindfulness are less stressed at work, better adjusted, and healthier. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction training on Job stress and Assertiveness among employed women. This study was a experimental study with a pretest and posttest design with a control group. The research population was the employed women in Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz in 2022, out of which 30 people were selected by voluntary sampling method and randomly placed into two equal groups. The experimental group was trained 8 sessions of 90 minutes (one sessions per week) with mindfulness-based stress reduction method, and the control group was placed on the waiting list for training. Data were collected by Parker and Davis job stress questionnaire, Gambrill and Richey assertiveness Scale, and analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). Finding showed a significant difference between performance of both experimental and control groups in the scores of Job stress and Assertiveness in post-test stages (p < 0/001). Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that training program of mindfulness-based stress reduction is effective in reduce Job stress and increasing Assertiveness among employed women. Regarding the effectiveness of training, implementation of such educational programs by Managers of organizations and other family therapists is recommended.

Abstract

Middle-aged women seem to perform a multitude of tasks in the family which may be very stressful. As a result, and combined with physiological and hormonal changes during menopause, these women may be at increasing. This in turn may result in decreased cognitive abilities. The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of mindfulness in the relationship between depression and anxiety with cognitive abilities in middle-aged women. The research method was descriptive-correlational using structural equation modeling. The statistical population of this study included all women between 40 and 60 years old living in Shiraz in the first quarter of 2023. Of these, 331women were available to take part in the study having fulfilled research criteria. Measurement tools used include: Mindfulness, Attention, Awareness Scale(MAAS) (Brown and Ryan, 2003); the Short Form of Depression, Anxiety and Stress scale (DASS-21) (Lavibond and Lavibond, 1995); and Nejati’s (2013) Cognitive Abilities Questionnaire. Data was analyzed by using the maximum likelihood estimation and the Bootstrape Significance Test. Findings showed direct and indirect (with the mediation of mindfulness) significant relationships between depression and anxiety with cognitive abilities in middle-aged women. Also, the direct and negative relationship between depression and anxiety with mindfulness and the direct and positive relationship between mindfulness and cognitive abilities were significant. Therefore, high levels of depression and anxiety and low levels of mindfulness can be considered as negative factors affecting cognitive abilities in middle-aged women.

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to improve reading skills by improving effective mechanisms including selective attention and inhibition using mindfulness and Sahaja Yoga techniques in a group of fifth grade students with academic and attention problems. In a post-test experimental design with a one-month follow-up, 200 male and female students with academic failure from two schools volunteered to participate in the study in Tehran. They were introduced to the researcher by their teachers. Of these, 60 girls and 60 boys were selected for the study according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. These girls and boys were randomly divided into three groups: mindfulness program (experimental group 1), Sahaja Yoga program (experimental group 2) and no intervention (control group). In total, 20 girls and 20 boys were placed in each group. After the end of intervention, all three groups in the post-test and follow-up stages completed the tests of reading skills based on Perls’ selective attention d2 and the Stroop test to measure inhibition. Results of mixed analysis of variance showed that meditation improved reading skills and executive function of students' selective attention and inhibition. This effect remained relatively stable over time. In addition, Sahaja Yoga intervention was more effective on reading skills and selective attention than mindfulness. The effect of time and the interaction effect of time × group were not significant for any of the dependent variables. It seems that meditation may be more suitable as it is easier to apply in various settings to reduce learning problems and applying academic skills and may be more available than other methods to professional and non-professional experts.
