سندرم ایمپاستر یک پدیده روانی است که افراد با عملکرد تحصیلی و شغلی بالا آن را تجربه می‌کنند و با احساس بی‌کفایتی، شک به خود و ترس از افشا شدن ناشایستگی همراه است. مطالعه کیفی حاضر از نوع نظریه زمینه‌ای و با بهره‌گیری از روش اشتراوس و کوربین به دنبال بررسی عوامل اثرگذار بر شکل‌گیری سندرم ایمپاستر در دانشجویان تحصیلات تکمیلی بود. مصاحبه‌های نیمه ساختاریافته با 30 نفر از دانشجویان تحصیلات تکمیلی که به روش نمونه‌گیری هدفمند انتخاب شدند، انجام شد. نتایج دربردارنده 75 کد اولیه در مرحله کدگذاری باز و 34 مقوله اصلی در کدگذاری محوری و در نهایت 9 کد گزینشی به نام‌های رقابت‌طلبی، استقلال‌طلبی، آرمان‌گرایی، سرابِ موفقیت، هدف‌مندی، آینده‌هراسی، کنجکاوی، منِ ناکافی و جاودانگی بود که همگی مولفه‌های عاملیت متورم به عنوان یک کد هسته‌ای بودند. نتایج پژوهش حاضر بیانگر آن بود که دانشجویان دارای سندرم ایمپاستر به قدری در لایه دوم خویشتن به عنوان یک عامل با انگیزه غرق شده‌اند که مجالی برای رشد بیشتر و رسیدن به آنچه از آن تحت عنوان خویشتن به عنوان نویسنده زندگی‌نامه نام برده می‌شود، نمی‌یابد. نتایج این پژوهش می‌تواند در راستای طراحی مداخلاتی جهت تعدیل و مدیریت عوامل اثرگذار مورد استفاده قرار گیرد تا دانشجویان از لایه عاملیت فراتر رفته و بتوانند نویسنده زندگی‌نامه خود باشند.
